This Deel review grades Deel on our Suite Score rubric, using public evidence only. Our verdict: Deel is one of the broadest single platforms for hiring and paying people abroad. Its employer of record (EOR) fee is high, its public entity claims differ from page to page, and it is in active litigation with a rival.
This article is general information, not legal or tax advice. It is based on Deel’s public pages and third-party sources as of October 2026, not on a signed contract or hands-on testing, and pricing, coverage, and entity arrangements change. A qualified professional should confirm your specific situation before you sign an employment or contractor arrangement.
Deel sells EOR, contractor management, global payroll, US PEO, and HR software under one login. Deel’s developer pages say it has more than 40,000 active customers. We focus on EOR and contractors because that is where most five-figure contracts begin.
Verdict
Grade: B. Suite Score: 79 out of 100.
Deel earns a B on breadth, security certifications, and published month-to-month pricing. It loses points for a premium EOR list price, inconsistent public entity counts, and undisclosed support terms.
- Best for: companies hiring in several countries at once that want EOR and contractors under one contract.
- Also a fit for: finance and HR teams that need API access and accounting or HRIS integrations.
- Skip it if: you have one or two hires in a single country, you only run US payroll, or you need a HIPAA business associate agreement.
One more flag for procurement: Deel is the defendant in a federal trade-secrets lawsuit brought by Rippling. The allegations are unproven and Deel denies them. We cover it in the legal section below.
Suite Score breakdown for this Deel review
| Category | Score | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Pricing & Total Cost | 11/15 | Published and flexible, but premium |
| Security & Compliance | 13/15 | SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 |
| Integrations & Platform | 8/10 | Open API, app store |
| Support & Onboarding | 6/10 | SLAs and hours undisclosed |
| Legal Protection & Entity Model | 16/20 | Owned entities claimed, counts inconsistent |
| Country Coverage | 17/20 | Broad, headline counts vary |
| Payroll & Payments | 8/10 | Wide scope, deposit and FX unclear |
| Total | 79/100 | Grade B |
We score conservatively. Anything the vendor does not disclose costs points, which is why support and entity detail pull the total below the A range.
Pricing and total cost
Deel charges per person per month, and the rate depends on the worker type. These are list prices as captured by independent trackers from Deel’s pricing page in October 2026.
| Product | List price | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| EOR | From $599 | Per employee, monthly |
| Contractor management | From $49 | Per contractor, monthly |
| Contractor of Record | From $325 | Per contractor, monthly |
| US PEO | From $125 | Per employee, monthly |
| Global payroll | From $29 | Per employee, monthly |
| Deel HR | $5 to $29 | Per employee, monthly |
Deel HR runs on three tiers: Core at $5, Advanced at $19, and Elite at $29. The earlier free tier no longer appears on the pricing page. Global payroll requires you to own a local entity. Pricing is described as month to month with no long-term commitment, and the page does not list setup or offboarding fees. Confirm both in your order form. Every figure in this section is a list price or a third-party report of one, and Deel changes pricing without notice, so your order form is the only number that counts.
Deel says so itself: “Deel is not the cheapest EOR provider, and that’s by design.” One comparison finds EOR list pricing has converged around $599 across the major providers. In our view, that means the real price differences sit in deposits, currency conversion, and add-ons.
What the EOR fee does not include
The $599 is a service fee. Salary, employer contributions, benefits, and reimbursements are added on top. Five EOR employees cost $35,940 a year in platform fees alone, before any of those items.
Independent reviewers report a deposit held against each EOR hire. One describes it as one month of gross salary, refunded 30 days after offboarding. Another describes a range of one to 1.5 times the fully loaded monthly cost. Get the exact formula and refund timing in writing.
Third-party trackers estimate volume pricing lands around $350 to $500 per employee at 20 or more employees. Those are not Deel-published figures, so treat them as a negotiating prompt. Reports conflict on whether an annual prepay discount exists. Some sources also cite a one-time global payroll entity setup fee of about $1,000, which we could not confirm from Deel. We found no published currency conversion margin, so we mark it undisclosed.
Reported US PEO pricing also varies by plan, from $110 to $125 per employee per month. Ask which plan your quote reflects.
Legal protection and entity model
In an EOR arrangement the vendor is the legal employer. That makes the entity behind your contract the most important thing you buy. Our explainer on what an employer of record is covers the mechanics.
Owned entities or partners?
Deel markets owned entities heavily, but its numbers are not consistent. One Deel page cites 200+ owned entities in 110+ countries. Another Deel page cites wholly owned entities in 130+ countries, and a third source on its own site references 150+.
Independent trackers disagree further. One counts roughly 80 owned and 80 partner entities across 160+ countries. Another reports around 110 owned entities, and a third reports about 250. We cannot reconcile these from public sources, and we found no country-by-country ownership list from Deel. Per-country entity ownership is therefore undisclosed, and we scored it conservatively at 16 out of 20.
It matters because, according to one tracker, in partner markets a third-party firm is the legal employer rather than Deel. Before you sign, ask for these items:
- A schedule naming the employing entity for each country you plan to hire in.
- Written indemnities and the liability cap in the master agreement.
- A transition clause covering what happens if a partner entity changes.
Contractors, PEO, and misclassification
Check whether the $49 contractor plan carries any classification protection. The $325 Contractor of Record plan is the product built for that, though one reviewer describes its liability cover as limited. Read the indemnity wording. Our contractor misclassification guide explains the exposure.
For US hires, Deel offers a PEO, which is co-employment and a different legal model from EOR. Our EOR vs PEO comparison explains when each applies.
The Rippling litigation
Rippling sued Deel in March 2025, alleging racketeering and trade secret misappropriation. In February 2026 a federal judge let those claims proceed. In September 2026 the same judge rejected Deel’s bid to strike a central witness’s testimony and sent Deel’s most serious counterclaims to arbitration.
Deel denies wrongdoing, and no court has ruled on whether the allegations are true. We found no evidence the case has disrupted service to customers. It is still a vendor-risk item your procurement team should note. For transparency, Rippling is a platform we track and may earn commission from, and that never affects a score.
Country coverage
Deel’s developer pages describe companies hiring in 150+ countries. Its EOR marketing cites 130+ countries on one page and 110+ on another. A third-party comparison also lists EOR coverage at 130+ countries.
For a typical hiring map covering the US, UK, Western Europe, and major Asia-Pacific markets, coverage is unlikely to be the constraint. The risk sits in smaller markets, where partner delivery is more likely and onboarding is reportedly slower. We gave 17 out of 20 because the headline count varies by page and the owned versus partner split is not published.
Payroll and payments
Deel’s scope here is wide: EOR payroll, contractor payments, global payroll for your own entities, US payroll, and US PEO. That breadth is the main reason to choose it over a single-purpose tool. Teams whose payroll is mostly domestic may be better served by a US-first HR and payroll suite such as Rippling; our Rippling review scores it on the same rubric.
Three items cost points. The deposit terms are reported inconsistently, the currency conversion margin is undisclosed, and global payroll needs your own entity. For a Deel review aimed at budget owners, the practical test is simple: ask for a sample first invoice with salary, employer costs, fee, deposit, and FX shown separately.
Security and compliance
This is Deel’s strongest category. Its Trust Center lists SOC 1, SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, and ISO 42001, plus a pentest attestation letter. Deel’s privacy and security page says its SOC 2 audit is completed annually.
Reports are gated. Deel directs customers to its support team or the Trust Center access request for the SOC 2 report and ISO certificate, so request them during procurement. A third-party reading of Deel’s August 2026 privacy policy says platform data is stored in Ireland with backups in France.
One independent tracker says Deel is not suitable if you need a HIPAA business associate agreement. Deel’s own page describes HIPAA safeguards for US benefits administration, so confirm your use case directly.
Integrations and platform
Deel says it offers 68+ integrations across HRIS, accounting, expense management, and FP&A tools. Named examples include NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, Workday, BambooHR, Expensify, and Zapier. Its help center also documents SSO, SCIM, SFTP, ATS, and IT integrations.
For custom work, Deel runs a public developer program with an API, OAuth2, webhooks, and a sandbox. It also has an app store for third-party integrations. A finance team with an ERP will find more here than at most EOR-only vendors, so we gave 8 out of 10.
Support and onboarding
We found no published support SLA, response-time commitment, or dedicated account manager terms by plan. Undisclosed items lose points, so this category scored 6 out of 10.
Trackers report onboarding in two to three days in major markets and five to seven business days in partner-covered countries. Those are estimates, not guarantees. Ask for a written SLA, a named escalation contact, and clarity on who handles terminations when a partner entity is involved.
Alternatives to Deel
After this Deel review, shortlist at least one alternative and request the same documents from each: entity schedule, sample invoice, and SOC 2 report.
- Remote positions itself on owned local entities in its EOR countries, per one third-party comparison. Request its country list and compare it against Deel’s schedule.
- Oyster is worth a look for smaller teams. Our Oyster review has its score and pricing.
- Rippling is the pick when you want HR, IT, and payroll on one employee record and global hiring is secondary. Our Rippling review explains where it scores above and below Deel.
Choose Deel when breadth and a single contract matter more than the lowest fee. Choose an alternative when you have a short country list and want entity ownership confirmed in writing.
Frequently asked questions
How much does Deel cost?
List prices start at $599 per employee per month for EOR and $49 per contractor per month. Salary, employer contributions, benefits, and any deposit are extra.
Is Deel safe to use?
Deel’s Trust Center lists SOC 1, SOC 2 Type II, and ISO 27001 among its certifications. Request the reports under NDA and review them against your own vendor policy.
Does Deel own its legal entities in every country?
Not clearly. Deel cites owned entities across 110+ to 150+ countries depending on the page, and independent counts conflict. Ask for a country-by-country schedule of employing entities.
Does the Rippling lawsuit affect Deel customers?
We found no evidence of service disruption. Deel denies the allegations and no court has ruled on them. Treat it as a vendor-risk note in procurement.
Is there a free Deel plan?
The pricing page we reviewed lists Deel HR from $5 per employee per month and shows no free tier. Older sources mention a free HR plan, so confirm current terms with Deel.
